Entry #1 Listening to Video Game Music

One of my favorite hobbies is playing video games, this is a pretty common hobby where you could control what is happening on a TV or any kind of computer screen. I like listening to music, which is also something a lot of people like doing. Many different people have their own way of listening to music, some people like to listen while they are doing their homework, during workouts, or just when they are doing nothing. I like music, but not just any kind of music, I like listening to video game music.

I really like listening to video game music because it calms me down in stressful moments, its makes me nostalgic from when I first played the games their music originated from, and they are just fun to listen too. I usually tend to prefer songs that don't have any kinds of lyrics or vocals. Sometimes I find vocalized or lyrical music good to listen to but I don't really follow any specific artists, I follow video games instead. When video games first started coming out in the 1970s, they didn't really have any music, just beeps and boops and a few jingles. Eventually in the 1980s, video games started having more longer, symphonic music rather than just small jingles. Video games used to have chiptune music because of the limitations of the consoles they came out on, eventually when video game consoles started becoming more stronger and powerful, video game music became much more orchestrated. This article from House of Solo explains the evolution of video game music from 8-bit chiptunes to orchestrated music. Video game music could also be compared to classical music, both don't feature any lyrics or vocals. A few older video games like Super Mario Bros, Final Fantasy, and Mother 3 use classical music or classical motifs. This article from LaMirada Symphony explains the connections between classical music and video game music. Video game music has inspired me to learn piano, I find it fun to play music from video games on my piano. I'm still a beginner at it and haven't really practiced in a while but I feel more motivated to play video game songs on my piano than other music.

I like video game music because it makes me feel calm in during tough or stressful times and I feel nostalgic when I listen to music from my childhood games. Video game music has evolved to be something more meaningful to players than just beeps and boops, they have inspired people to make music or play and instrument. Video game music has made me appreciate music and also made me appreciate video games in general.
